Had attended a session by Yuval Harari few weeks back, and one theme struck me as profoundly relevant to the future of leadership:

“AI will dominate anything that can be reduced to language - which makes human consciousness and empathy more valuable than ever.”

As leaders, this isn’t just philosophical. It’s operational.

It determines where humans still lead and where machines will take over.

The session also highlighted several pressures shaping leadership today:

- Time poverty at the top - decision-makers are running on cognitive fumes, with little space for
reflection or deep thought.

- Power rising exponentially while happiness stagnates - a reminder that progress without inner clarity is hollow.

- AI shifting from attention to intimacy - as AI becomes companion-like, its influence on beliefs and behaviour will deepen dramatically.

- The need to rebuild trust across societies and systems to navigate an age defined by autonomous intelligence and geopolitical complexities.

What this reinforces for me and resonates with the core theme of our book is simple:

In an age of intelligent machines, the differentiator for leaders is not just IQ, but inner intelligence: consciousness, empathy, and presence.

This is where leadership is headed.

This is where humans must still lead.
